Hexagon quilt progress

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to my new followers. I got so excited when I saw it had leapt up to 41!

Not a lot to report at the moment as I've been crafting for the for a new travelling box that will go round a few of us in the UK. It's just a very small one but should be a bit of fun in the run up to the festive season. I've made 6 things and I plan to do another 6 or so before I post the box out in a couple of weeks. I have almost everything I need to do the last few things so all I need to do is order a few beads. Guess what I'll be doing after next!!! You can't beat a bit of stash shopping. As a bit of a teaser here are most of the bits I need to do these projects...Can you guess what I'll be making?

Mystery stash

The only thing I have to show you is the progress on my hexagon quilt. It has grown a fair bit. I've not done any for a couple of weeks with the travelling box stuff. I have been buying fabric though. It's fair to say I have an addiction :-) A friend gave me some vintage Laura Ashley fabric last week, mostly in muted colours but sometimes you need something to tone down areas so it will work well.

I love that I have fabric from different people so the quilt is telling a story and everyone seems to have their favourite hexagon in the quilt...What's yours? I love the lime green and white flowers one and of course James the red engine as Thomas Tank Engine is huge in our house and I've crafted a lot of Thomas stuff.

Hexagon Quilt

Personally I blame Laura for my addiction to this now. It's been 3 days and I'm going down a very slippery slope.

Last night I sat and sewed together the start of my quilt. I loved doing it and I'm wondering already if I'll ever cross stitch again! so here is my quilt with the first 24 block sewn together. I'm so pleased with how it has come together so far, and I shall be making more hexagons tonight ready for another sewing session. I've just gone into the lounge to find my daughter cutting it up. So tonight I will be unpicking hexagons too. I think it is just one row. so you can get a good idea how it should be and also the damage she did.

I was a bit naughty today and I decided the 100 hexagons I have cut ready wasn't enough so I was in one of the sewing shops 5 mins after it opened buying scrap packs. I got 3 lovely ones and there were only a couple of scraps that were unsuitable but they just go in the box and the kids craft with them. The good thing about them is that there are fabrics that will look great in the quilt, but they wouldnt be the usual sort of thing I'd buy as a fat quarter, I think it's a great way to get a wide variety of colours and patterns.

So much to tell...pt 2

I''ve had a few new followers recently so welcome to Sam, Mii and Sarah. Thanks for following and taking an interest in my nonsense.

So as I mentioned yesterday Laura came up to visit me for the day and came armed with her crochet hooks to teach me the basics. We had a little wander around the town and I took Laura to the two fabric shops and we stopped for a drink in House of Fraser. We came back to my house for an afternoon of crafting. I learnt how to do double and treble crochet and it may only be tiny but here is my progress. You can see it with the pretty little stitch markers that Laura made for me too. Laura was an excellent teacher, despite the mild panic when I announced I was left handed! I did learn to do it with my right hand and it wasn't awkward at all.

Laura being Laura came armed with presents for us too. As well as 2 cross stitch books and a jar of her Mum's strawberry jam, She made me a very cute Kokeshi doll and a stunning Chinese lantern biscornu.

And for Thomas a little puppy dog. As most of you know all my Ami's live in a basket in my lounge and
Thom has now asked me to get a wicker basket for him as he has 4 ami's and feels he needs storage for them. (bless). The puppy has been named Pippin.

Lastly out of her Mary Poppins-esque bag, Laura produced this hexagon quilt kit for me. She had made me a template, started me off with a few hexagons and given me a little bag of fabric too.

So naturally I spent yesterday evening making my paper hexagons and sewing a few ready to begin my putting together.

This morning I sat and cut up lots of fabric so I'm off to spend the afternoon tacking the fabric onto the papers. I now have the potential to make about 100 hexagons with what I've prepared I'm just going to make a few sheets of hexagons ready to cut out (well one and photocopy it a few times) then I'm good to go.

So much to tell...pt 1

Hi everyone,

I've drawn the next recipient of the travelling pattern, so it is now on it's way up north to Sam. you can visit Sam's blog here.

 It's been a busy week so I shall fill you in on some today and tell you about my day with Laura and my first lesson in crochet tomorrow.

This week started with my friend's daughter starting high school this week so I made her a little bag tag. I put stars on it as Carenza really is one. She's not really a girly girl so blue seemed a good idea.

As readers of Laura's blog will know too, it was her 1st wedding anniversary today so I made a little biscornu for her and her husband. The pattern was one I found on Pinterest. I’ve quite fancied doing a biscornu like this with a coloured fabric and white thread, so it was a joy to do (Except for the bit where I miscounted and had to re-stitch some of it!)

I shall be back on the Hello Kitty biscornu now which was one of my 101/1001. I’ve made a bit of progress this week and finished another book (the Iron Horse by Edward Marston) and started an Agatha Raisin. Thomas and I have been reading Danny The champion of the world too. It’s my favourite Roald Dahl book and I’m enjoying it so much.

The Travelling Pattern

before we start, there is still 2 days to enter my giveaway here, If you haven't done already, go on you know you want to!

A while ago I put my name forward for this travelling pattern. It was started by Cucki last October and I didn't get selected to recieve it next, nor did I when it went to Jo, anyhoo the person who did recieve it wasn't able to do it so a week or so ago Jo offered it up again. Well long story short I got it (yay go me!) so here is my version of the pattern stitched on sparkly ice blue aida with my new favourite thread from Dinky Dyes called Luna Park. It was such a quick stitch and only took me a few days to do. I can't decide where to hang it though, Hall or Kitchen????

I now have the pleasure of pasing this lovely Lizzie *Kate Travelling Pattern on and here are the rules if you would like to take part:
