Monochrome May wrap up

I've been a bit rubbish with Theme-a-licious the last couple of months, so when I was reading Heather's post on it this morning, I came up with a fab way to shoe-horn my stitching into the theme. My idea I had at the beginning of the year didn't happen. This was the theme, with my thoughts in green.

Monochrome May
Pick a color, any color, then stitch only on projects that contain that color for the month!
Maybe brown or blue so that could be the Giraffes or my HAED

Well neither of those happened but what I did achieve was to stitch 3 different projects in just one colour for each project. They may not have been one colour for the month (although I did initally want to go with black so I could do my sampler) but I did one in black, one in a very dark purple and the third (cue very, very big shoehorn) which I can share was stitched in a vari thread called Luna Park (by Dinky Dyes). By every stretch of the imagination possible this fits because the thread has one name therefore is one shade!!!! Told you it was a stretch even by Serendipidous Jo's standards (Sorry Jo!)

Right to the stitching. I can't share the black and purple ones as they are in the travelling box...well travelling, but here is the vari one. It was stitched for Lori's birthday earlier this week from a pattern by Steph.
Here is Wee Luna Faerie.

Here is June's theme...
Jumanji June
Is it a jungle out there in your stash? Give some love to the projects with animals or birds.
More projects than I thought have animals in them so either of the Giraffe projects or the Sampler

Shoehorning could be slightly harder here, I have 6 june projects in mind and only one contains an animal! One is better than none I guess!

Wish me luck!

Hexagon quilt kit giveaway

Many moons ago I promised a giveaway for a kit to start a hexagon quilt. I really wanted to do this as I was given a kit by Laura (who also has an excellent tutorial here on how to do it) so to pay it forward I wanted to give one away too. You can see my progress here  in case you missed it yesterday.

Here is the kit you could win, It has two reels of thread, a selection of cotton fabrics to make the hexagons as well as a few made up. There is a packet of papers (I cheat and buy mine from the quilting shop) but you can use one to make your own template and make your own as Laura suggests in her tutorial. I've sewn 3 hexagons together to start you off too.

So to win the kit you need to do two things...

  1. Be (or become) a follower
  2. Comment on this post telling me what piece of fabric you would put into your quilt that most represents you? I have a couple of giraffes and lots of green in my quilt to give you an idea.
The winner will be drawn at random on Sunday 9th June

Good luck and thank you for reading my blog.

Ps don't worry if you don't fancy the quilt kit, It's my blogversary soon so I'll have another giveaway then!

Hexagon quilt update

Hi everyone,

After having a mad making month for the travelling craft box I decided to spend a little time not stitching as I wanted to be refreshed  for when I do my summer birthday/exchange/anniversary stitching in June and July. I decided that my quilt had been rather neglected and I've been sent some lovely fabric recently by Steph and Laura so time to add it in.

So I had a sort out of all the fabric that needed to go in, there was around 60 different fabrics there and then I found a pile of hexagon shaped pieces I'd already cut in the box...

Made a few heaxagons (100 to be exact) I did have 98 by the time I'd done all I wanted but decided that was a weird number and needed to be rounded off!

and set out add a few more rows. Here's the last picture I blogged.

And here it is today. The last 4 on the bottom row need sewing in, but they are the ones I want to put in.

I'll be finishing off the pile of hex's I have left later as one more row should see it squared off. Then it'll be time for a huge hex making session again, or rather the start of the summer stitching. I'm really pleased with how much I've done, It's almost doubled in length in a week!

Tomorrow I launch my giveaway to win a kit to start your own hexagon quilt!

A lovely RAK for me!

Hi Friends and happy Saturday!!

Just a very short post to show a lovely RAK I received from Steph this week. It was such as surprise as I wasnt expecting anything (hence it being a RAK d'oh!)

Not the best composition of a photograph but as you can see there was a gorgeous ball of green marble wool, a book called the white giraffe and a lovely buttercup scented candle. I also had an original pen and ink wee witchy drawing on the card. The fabric is a piece of hand dyed evenweave I brought from Stephs folksy shop Dolly Dolly Daydreams.  It came in a lovely package with some thank you charms, one of Stephs business cards and a mad showgirl guinea pig card!! How fabulous!!

I've no makes to show at the moment as I've been making for the travelling box. It's going to be a bit of a secret make month as I want to make something for hubby for our anniversary next month and also I have a couple of birthdays too. Anyhoo the travelling box will be off to Cucki at the beginning of next week so I'll be able to share my picks and hopefully in a couple of weeks share my makes...all 14 of them!!

Have a great weekend.

Hugs Kerry

Giveaway win, World Book Night and Cotswold Farm Park

Hope you've all enjoyed your weekend it's been glorious here. we've been out and about this weekend to visit family and spend sometime together as it's been the bank holiday.

I was very lucky to have a giveaway win from Carolyns blog taking one stitch at a time last month and I won this pretty chart for a humbug and it comes with a very pretty pin to put in it. It's just my cup of tea as it will fit in lovely in my biscornu bowl.

Another lovely bit of post I had last week was a World Book Night copy of the Secret Scripture by Sebastian Barry fron Joan. We are reading it as part of the 50 books challenge, although I'm desperately trying to get through my current book so I can start it along with the other group members. It has a lovely inscription inside too.

We celebrated both childrens birthdays last week and as their birthdays we visited the Cotswold Farm Park. It's a lovely day out if anyone watches BBC's Countryfile - it's Adam Hensons farm. (last time we went he was in the cafe!) So here are a few pictures of the Rare breeds that live there.

We had a fabulous time, we got to  feed goats and lambs with bottles and feed other animals in the park with the feed. We had a tractor ride and went on the bouncy pillows and did the small maze. We had a great day and I'd thoroughly recomend it to anyone with children.

Well my next post will show you my picks from the amazing travelling box!!

More Easter goodies

Happy May Day to you all. It's a glorious day here and I'm off to toddlers soon and then to meet my friend for lunch (who is over from New Zealand for a month) and a walk to the countryside centre where hubby will meet me with the kids after school. Sounds like a good day to me!

So as I said in my last post I also had goodies from Steph too and here they are...

So Steph sent me some yummy Easter biscuits she had made and some chocolates along with  a bag of charms and buttons and this HUGE bunny! he really is as big as he looks. He's sat next to a regular sized paperback novel Steph sent me to read for the 50 book challenge.

Some what delayed I sent Steph a little bunny too and a few other goodies, including a bangle I brought back from my holiday. (thank you to Steph for the photo collage)

I seem to be losing followers, so apologies if I've upset anyone or if I'm just that dull. I'm hoping it's just because of the google reader thingy (which I still don't understand)

In more exciting news, the travelling box is with me at the moment so I'll have lots to share in a couple of weeks. Cucki the box will be on it's way to you in a couple of weeks!!!

Bye for now!
